Q. How do I fix the "400 Bad Request: Request Header or Cookie Too Large" error when accessing library resources?

Answer

This error often relates to issues with your browser’s cookies or settings. Try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the problem:

  1. Quick Fix. Test in an Incognito/Private Window:
    • Open an incognito or private browsing window and try accessing the resource again.
    • If this works, the issue is likely with your browser’s cookies. Proceed to clear your cache and cookies.
  2. Clear Cache and Cookies:
    • Ensure you clear them for all time.
    • Close your browser after clearing, reopen it, log in to MyASU, and try again.
  3. Switch Browsers:
    • If the issue persists, try accessing the resource using a different browser.
  4. Check Your VPN Connection:
    • Sign out of your VPN and sign back in.
    • Note: Using a VPN does not provide direct access to ASU Library resources. Access is only supported through the ASU Library portal by signing in to your ASU account on the library website or using One Search.
  5. Restart Your Device and Network:
    • Disconnect your internet connection.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Reconnect and try again.
  6. Check for Blockers:
    • Disable any firewalls, pop-up blockers, or browser extensions that could interfere with access.
  7. Try a Different Device or Network:
    • Access the resource from another device or a different internet connection to determine if the issue is device- or network-specific
